Purtroppo, con la crisi dell'agrumicoltura, buona parte dei tipici manufatti ("gebbie" = vasche di raccolta e "saje" = canali in terracotta) colonizzati da questo Anuro nel corso del Novecento versano ormai in stato di abbandono. Se in un futuro non lontano essi dovessero andare definitivamente perduti, sarebbe un vero peccato, non solo perché elementi del paesaggio storico siciliano, ma anche perché giocano un ruolo importante nella conservazione della biodiversità all'interno degli agroecosistemi.
