Era il 24 novembre del 1973, quando le condizioni meteo improvvisamente peggiorarono e scesero di parecchi gradi, il pilota dell'aereo Americano un Douglas Super DC-3 della US Navy , perse il controllo e con sangue freddo devio dalla rotta e atterrò bruscamente nella immensa spiaggia di Myrdalsjokul, riuscendo a salvare tutto l'equipaggio. Anche questo è diventato una meta fotografica.
