L'insigne Collegiata Abbazia Mitrata dedicata a Sant'Andrea Apostolo risale al XI secolo. Dell'antica Ecclesia Sancti Andree de Carraria menzionata già nel 1035, l'unica testimonianza rimane un bassorilievo erratico. Nel corso dei secoli ampliata e rimaneggiata più volte aggiungendo all'impianto Romanico elementi in stile Gotico. Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale il Duomo è stato fortemente rivisto con l'eliminazione sia dei sontuosi altari barocchi che del soffitto a cassettoni e di quanto non appartenente all'impianto originale dell'opera.
