Si ritiene che l'edificio sia stato costruito fra la fine del '500 e i primi anni del '600 in segno di ringraziamento per la vittoria ottenuta dagli abitanti locali contro una grossa banda di briganti che, sconfinando dallo Stato Pontificio, si era diretta da Campo Imperatore ai possedimenti della famiglia Piccolomini. La chiesa sorge in posizione isolata a poca distanza da Rocca Calascio, a circa 1432 m. sl. La struttura è a pianta ottagonale; la facciata principale, in stile barocco, è rivolta a mezzogiorno ed il suo portale è sormontato da un'edicoletta, con timpano curvo spezzato e affiancato da due nicchie vuote. La chiesa è coperta da una volta a padiglione a tutto sesto. Presso uno dei lati dell'ottagono vi è posto un altare in muratura e stucchi con il quadro raffigurante la Madonna della Pietà (nota informativa presso la Chiesa).

In Castel del Monte there were shepherds with cloth cloaks and gaiters!
