Oscar Claude Monet (Parigi, 14 novembre 1840 – Giverny, 5 dicembre 1926), battezzato dai genitori con il nome Oscar ma destinato ad entrare nelle pagine dei libri di storia dell'arte come Claude Monet, padre, insieme agli amici Pierre Auguste Renoir e Camille Pisarro, del "movimento impressionista" che prende il nome proprio da una sua opera, "Impressione, levar del sole". Maestro della luce e dei colori, dagli anni Ottanta inizia a realizzare opere dipinte in serie, nelle quali uno stesso soggetto viene ripreso in decine e decine di tele, in modo tale che l'unico fattore a cambiare sia proprio la luce. Essendosi ammalato di cataratta, nel 1923, alla veneranda età di 82 anni, a seguito dell'intervento di rimozione del cristallino, il suo modo di dipingere cambia notevolmente, in special modo in relazione all'utilizzo dei colori. Questa che, con un po' di irriverenza (mischiando il "sacro" con il "profano"), ho voluto fotografare è la sua ultima e magica opera, "Le rose", dipinta a memoria, quando l'artista non vedeva quasi più, opera che con buona probabilità, è da considerarsi incompiuta. La mostra, allestita in questo periodo, nelle sale del Palazzo Reale di Milano ripercorre l'intera parabola artistica del Maestro impressionista, letta attraverso le opere che l'artista stesso considerava fondamentali, una bellissima "immersione" nella luce e nei colori. E questa l'ultima immagine che ho deciso di pubblicare per quest'anno per cui colgo l'occasione per augurare a tutti un Buon Natale ed un felicissimo Anno Nuovo unitamente alle persone a voi più care.
