L'Antico Stabilimento Balneare di Mondello, costruito a palafitta sul mare, è stato progettato dall'architetto Rudolf Stualker (il lavoro era stato originariamente pensato per la città di Ostenda, in Belgio, ma venne spostato nella località di Mondello a causa della maggior bellezza del paesaggio di quest'ultima: obiettivamente, volete veramente mettere a paragone Mondello con Ostenda? Tsè!). L'edificio, unico nel suo genere, rappresenta una delle opere architettoniche in stile Art Nouveau più belle d'Europa. La realizzazione del progetto fu affidata all'impresa di Giovanni Rutelli, che riuscì a costruire un edificio resistente all'azione corrosiva dell'acqua e della salsedine, ultimando i lavori nel 1912. Lo Stabilimento Balneare di Mondello, fu inaugurato il 15 Luglio 1913.
