l Castello di Celano fu costruito intorno al 1392 per volontà di Pietro Berardi, conte di Celano, e proseguirono fino al 1463 quando Antonio Todeschini-Piccolomini, nipote di papa Pio II, portò a termine la monumentale opera. Inizialmente aveva funzione difensiva, in seguito fu residenza nobile. Le mura di cinta della struttura sono interrotte da cinque torri rotonde, mentre un ponte levatoio permette di attraversare un fossato fino ad accedere all'ingresso principale. Al centro del cortile interno è ancora visibile un antico pozzo-cisterna. Dopo i Piccolomini il castello passò nelle mani di diverse famiglie nobiliari fino al 1938, quando venne espropriato dallo Stato per pubblica utilità e dichiarato Monumento Nazionale. Nel 1915 un terribile terremoto distrusse gran parte del castello, ma in seguito fu totalmente ricostruito e ristutturato. Il monumento è sede del Museo d'Arte Sacra della Marsica e della Collezione Torlonia di Antichità del Fucino.
