Quasi di fronte a questo castello, sulla costa siciliana dello Stretto di Messina, esiste, nel Comune di Scaletta Zanclea, il castello Rufo Ruffo, eretto nel 1220 da Federico di Svevia, passata più volte la proprietà, gli ultimi possessori, la famiglia Ruffo dei quali Sigerio, lo cedette al Comune di Scaletta nel 1969. Quello da te ritratto, invece è stato acquistato dai Ruffo nel nome di Paolo nel 1543 e da lui restaurato. In epoca successiva, quindi, ma ignoro se la famiglia Ruffo fosse la stessa insediata sulle due coste dello Stretto. Proverò ad approfondire
