Lo Scoglio di Roccaporena, o Sacro Scoglio, s'innalza 120 metri sul paese di Roccaporena ed è alto 827 sul livello del mare. Sulla cima dello Scoglio Sacro, nel 1919, venne costruita una cappella che, nel 1941, fu restaurata e circondata da un porticato. Danneggiata dal terremoto del 1979, ricostruita secondo il progetto dell'architetto romano Riccardo Leoni, è stata inaugurata nel 1983. Il sentiero sale con la parete della rupe a sinistra e, a destra, gli alberi che s'aggrappano al precipizio. Sotto la sommità di un gran sasso, una fontanella cristallina spegne l'arsura della salita. I fedeli raccolgono quell'acqua: l'“acqua di Rita”, la chiamano. Non importa come sia arrivata lassù, o se scaturisca dalla rupe: è sacra perché tutto il luogo è sacro e nulla più dell'acqua, sangue della terra e della roccia, partecipa intimamente della sacralità dei luoghi. Nella chiesina dello Scoglio di Roccaporena, emerge dalla struttura architettonica la roccia sulla quale la tradizione vuole che Santa Rita, ormai vedova, sostasse a pregare. Le due concavità contigue scavate, in basso, nella tavola rocciosa inclinata, vengono mostrate ai fedeli come impronte delle ginocchia di Rita; le più piccole, come impronte dei gomiti, e da lì sempre secondo la tradizione, sia stata prelevata dai santi, suoi protettori, per essere condotta in volo a Cascia nel Monastero di Santa Maria Maddalena. Dalla vetta dello Scoglio i molti fedeli scorgono in un unico sguardo, il villaggio di Roccaporena, Il Santuario, la Chiesa di San Montano, La Grotta d`Oro e tutti i luoghi legati a Santa Rita, nonché le vallate sottostanti che circondano il borgo.
