Questo splendido orologio solare orizzontale, probabilmente uno dei più grandi al mondo, si trova nella piazza a centro del paese di Grammichele. La caratteristica di questa grande piazza è la sua forma esagonale, attraversata da sei strade che si staccano tutte al centro dei lati dell'esagono. Il comune di Grammichele si trova alle pendici dei Monti Iblei e dista 43 km da Ragusa e 68 da Catania, che ne è il capoluogo. Fu distrutta dal tristemente famoso terremoto del 1693 insieme a mezza Sicilia. Il merito della ricostruzione va a don Carlo Maria Carafa, principe di Butera e Roccella, al quale fu dedicata la grande piazza esagonale.
