Il Prato della Valle (Pra dea vae in Padovano), è una piazza della città di Padova tra le più grandi d'Italia è d'Europa. La configurazione attuale risale alla fine del XVIII secolo,ed è caratterizzata da un'isola ellittica centrale, chiamata isola Memmia, circondata da una canaletta, alimentata dal canale Alicorno, sulle cui sponde si trova un doppio anello di statue, con una circonferenza esterna di 1450 metri. In periodo romano ed altomedioevale, l'aera era nota come Campo di Marte o Campo Marzio perchè destinata, tra le altre funzioni, a luogo di riunioni militari. Successivamente l'area fu indicata sia come “Valle del Mercato”, per i mercati e le fiere stagionali che qui avevano sede, sia come “Prato di Santa Giustina” in relazione alla presenza dell'omonima chiesa.
