Il Parco Romantico della Regina fu realizzato dal nobil uomo John Temple Leader tra il 1870 e il 1893 attorno alla Cava detta delle Colonne. Negli ettari attorno alla cava, ora trasformata in laghetto romantico, gli stradelli degli scalpellini furono trasformati e valorizzati come percorsi romantici e botanici per gli ospiti di Temple Leader. Il tutto fu inaugurato dalla Regina Vittoria d'Inghilterra nell'aprile del 1893. In questi luoghi vi hanno lavorato Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Benedetto e Giuliano da Maiano e Boccaccio; ed è stata anche una delle location del film “Camera con vista” di James Ivory, vincitore di 3 premi Oscar nel 1987. E' qui che Lorenzo il Magnifico e Michelangelo hanno estratto le pietre per costruire la Cappella dei Principi in San Lorenzo e la scala della Laurenziana. In epoca più tarda sono state ricavate le nuove colonne degli Uffizi. Il Parco Romantico della Regina è la prima parte di un progetto che vuole riportare l'intera area agli antichi splendori senza perdere di vista ricerca e innovazione. Investire sulla riqualificazione è il modo migliore per rendere omaggio ad un luogo ricco di storia ed arte.
