La valle di Bagan è oggi uno dei siti archeologici più spettacolari di tutta l'Asia. Più di 4mila edifici religiosi, tra templi colossali, stupa minori e incredibili pagode si estendono per 10 chilometri quadrati a est del fiume Irrawaddy. I templi di Bagan offrono un panorama unico sull'arte e l'architettura del Myanmar nel suo momento di massimo splendore. Un luogo magico, con un'atmosfera indescrivibile, divenuto a Luglio 2019 Patrimonio dell'Umanità UNESCO. Bagan è una delle aree più sacre della Birmania e di tutta l'Asia in generale. La valle dei templi di Bagan è una verde pianura in cui i sovrani birmani hanno costruito nell'arco di 250 anni, tra l'XI e il XII secolo, circa 13.000 templi di varie dimensioni. Attualmente solo 2.500 templi sono ancora in piedi, e sono sotto controllo per cercare di tutelarli. Non essendo protetti dal vento, i templi vengono levigati dalle particelle di sabbia, che erodendo i rivestimenti di stucco scoprono i mattoni rossi e che prendono sfumature dorate quando sono illuminate dalla luce del sole all'alba e al tramonto.
