La carrozzeria della Golden Hawk venne progettata dal designer francese Raymond Loewi mentre la vettura fu prodotta negli Stati Uniti... nello stabilimento sito nello Stato dell'Indiana... nel triennio 1956-58 nella sola versione Coupé a due porte. Nel biennio 1956-57 era dotata di un motore V8 costruito dalla Packard di 5800 cm3. erogante 275 cavalli di potenza che portavano la vettura ad oltre 200 chilometri orari mentre nel 1958 tale propulsore venne sostituito con un V8 di 4700 cm3 litri dotato di turbo compressore McCulloch erogante 275 cavalli di potenza. Nel 1957 al catalogo fu aggiunta la versione 400 che aveva finiture più lussuose. Per la serie Hawk la Studebaker commercializzò 4 differenti vetture per grado di finiture e motorizzazioni mentre il numero totale di Golden Hawk costruite dovrebbe aggirarsi sulle 878 unità. Anni dopo... dotata dello stesso motore V8 di 4,7 litri turbo compresso ma con una carrozzeria dalle forme differenti... la Packard commercializzò un'altra vettura pure lei denominata Hawk.
