Se notate nell'immagine si vedono alcuni frammenti del durissimo guscio di noce che schizzano in aria sotto l'azione continua dei suoi incisivi che non smettono mai di crescere nonostante il logorio dovuto dall'incessante sfregamento contro superfici resistenti. Può perdere più del 25% del cibo sepolto a causa di altri animali che depredano le sue scorte.
