Villa Almerico Capra, detta La Rotonda è una villa veneta situata alle porte di Vicenza. Fatta costruire da Paolo Almerico, che la commissionò ad Andrea Palladio nel 1556-57 fu completata da Vincenzo Scamozzi, allievo del Palladio, nel 1605 per i due fratelli Capra che l'avevano acquisita nel 1591. La Rotonda, fu consapevolmente progettata per essere in armonia con il paesaggio, è uno dei più celebri ed imitati edifici della storia dell'architettura dell'epoca moderna, senza dubbio è la villa più famosa e probabilmente più bella del Palladio, dal 1994 fa parte del Patrimonio dell'Umanità dell'Unesco. Lo scrittore tedesco Goethe nella sua opera Viaggio in Italia scrive: ”22 settembre 1786, oggi ho visitato una splendida villa detta La Rotonda…forse mai l'arte architettonica ha raggiunto un tal grado di magnificenza”. Oggi 2 giugno 2020, dopo mesi di chiusura causa Covid-19, sono ritornato a visitarla e non posso che confermare umilmente le parole del grande poeta tedesco.
