Nel cuore della Basilicata c'è un maestro in pensione che non ha mai smesso di insegnare. Ogni giorno esce di casa e gira in lungo e in largo per tutta la regione, spesso spingendosi anche oltre. Destinazione, le scuole di mezza Italia. "I miei libri hanno messo le ruote per arrivare a migliaia di giovani", racconta Antonio La Cava, per tutti il maestro La Cava. "Ho speso la mia vita con i giovani, invitandoli alla lettura, e oggi ho deciso di portare i libri a loro direttamente". Ecco l'obiettivo principale di Antonio, che da quattordici anni si muove tra le colline e le montagne della Basilicata a bordo del suo Bibliomotocarro: Antonio distribuisce libri gratis ai bambini. Per quarantadue anni maestro di scuola, e in pensione da quattro. "Ma il mio bibliomotocarro è nato nel 1999, quando io ero in servizio. Ed è un'idea che mi porto dietro da tanto tempo", precisa Antonio. Nato a Ferrandina, un paesino nel cuore della Basilicata a trentacinque chilometri da Matera, Antonio ha un'energia travolgente. La sua Ape usata, acquistata nel 2003 e trasformata in una biblioteca itinerante, può ospitare fino a 700 libri. L'arrivo dell'Ape carica di libri viene annunciato a suon di musica. Antonio raggiunge i bambini nei luoghi più frequentati, come i campetti da gioco e le piazzette. Così è riuscito a prestare in media 450 libri alla settimana. "Giro i centotrenta comuni della provincia di Matera, ma anche quelli della Puglia e della Campania.
