Un simbolo eterno di Firenze - Costruito vicino ad un attraversamento di epoca romana, il Ponte Vecchio fu fino al 1218 l'unico ponte che attraversava l' Arno a Firenze. Il ponte, come lo si vede attualmente, fu costruto nel 1345 dopo che una violenta alluvione aveva distrutto il precedente. Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale le truppe tedesche distrussero tutti i ponti di Firenze, eccetto questo. Tuttavia bloccarono l'accesso al ponte distruggendo le due costruzioni medievali ai suoi lati. Il 4 Novembre 1966 il Ponte Vecchio sopportò miracolosamente l' enorme ondata di acqua dell' Arno in piena, che ruppe i propri argini causando l' alluvione di Firenze. Commissionato dai Medici, permetteva loro di spostarsi da Palazzo Vecchio a Palazzo Pitti senza dover attraversare le strade di Firenze, in tutta sicurezza. Al tempo della costruzione del Corridoio, sul Ponte Vecchio erano riunite le botteghe dei macellai, che probabilmente con la loro attività disturbavano il passaggio dei Medici, che nel 1593 le fecero spostare, sostituendole con le più "decorose" botteghe orafe.
