Scelta come una delle foto del mese di Agosto da National Geographic Italia - Fattore C: posto giusto al momento giusto! A Scilla l'11 agosto ero solo di passaggio, arrivato di pomeriggio per poi partire l'indomani mattina verso la Sicilia. Mentre raggiungevo il paese in automobile provenendo da Villa San Giovanni, noto una lingua di nuvola scendere verso il mare, pensando “non può essere una tromba marina…” E invece, non appena trovo un punto panoramico, mi fermo e questo è lo spettacolo: due trombe marine (piccole, infatti non tirava neanche molto vento) e il paesino di Scilla, indifeso di fronte al paesaggio quasi apocalittico. Tempo cinque minuti e le trombe, che si dirigevano verso la costa a nord del paese, si dissolvono. Fenomeno che ho letto non essere raro da quelle parti (inutile credo ricordare la leggenda dei mostri marini Scilla e Cariddi che compaiono nell'Odissea), per me e i passanti che mi hanno affiancato in quei pochi minuti è stato affascinante e anche un poco spaventoso.
