L'antenato del gelato nacque in Cina intorno al 2000 a. C. ed era preparato con riso molto cotto, spezie e latte; il tutto veniva poi introdotto nella neve perché si solidificasse. Successivamente nacquero anche dolci a base di succhi di frutta ghiacciati, con o senza latte. Nel XIII secolo per le vie di Pechino si potevano acquistare vari tipi di questi dolci, venduti su carrettini. Nel '300 latte e frutta ghiacciati apparvero in Italia, importati da Marco Polo. Gelati italiani. Quando Caterina de' Medici sposò il futuro re Enrico II di Francia nel 1533, diffuse oltralpe un dessert semifreddo a base di crema dolce che assomigliava molto al gelato attuale. Fino ad allora il gelato era cibo da ricchi, per la difficoltà di conservare il ghiaccio d'estate. Ma verso il 1560 un medico spagnolo che viveva a Roma, Blasius Villafranca, scoprì che, aggiungendo salnitro alla neve e al ghiaccio, si poteva congelare molto più rapidamente qualsiasi cosa: la scoperta diede grande impulso alla produzione di gelato. Nel XIX secolo il gelato si diffuse anche in Inghilterra e in America grazie agli emigranti italiani che lo vendevano per strada. Il venditore di gelati veniva chiamato “hokey-pokey”, traslitterazione dell'italiano “Ecco un poco”. Critiche e commenti sempre super graditi. Grazie.
