Secondo una tradizione popolare "Les penitents" è una catena rocciosa all'interno della quale sono celati dei frati pietrificati, come punizione, per aver sedotto donne musulmane durante l'invasione araba. Sita nel comune di Les Mees , in Provenza-Alpi-Costa Azzurra. Nel corso dei secoli terra, sabbia e sassi si sono cementificati e nel tempo l' azione di acqua e vento ha lavorato la roccia donandole questa conformazione bizzarra di monaci incappucciati.
