#Montagna Focale 24 mm " È lunga come il purgatorio, scura come il temporale, la scala che ti porta lassù, sull'Altopiano di Asiago. Quattromilaquattrocentoquarantaquattro gradini, ripidi da bestie, faticosi già a nominarli." (Paolo Rumiz) La Calà del Sasso è un percorso, formato da 4444 gradini, che collega il comune di Valstagna, nel Canale di Brenta, alla frazione Sasso di Asiago, nell'Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, in provincia di Vicenza, ed è la scalinata più lunga d'Italia. La Calà del Sasso deve il suo nome Calà (calata, discesa) al fatto che veniva sfruttata per far scendere i tronchi d'albero dalla frazione Sasso al Brenta. Realizzata nel XIV secolo sotto il dominio di Gian Galeazzo Visconti, venne ampiamente sfruttata dai Veneziani dal XV al XVIII secolo per rifornire di legname l'Arsenale per la costruzione di navi. Copre un dislivello di 744 metri. Il percorso è ancora in gran parte affiancato da una cunetta (canaletta), realizzata, come i gradini stessi, in pietra calcarea: questa cunetta veniva un tempo utilizzata per trasportare a valle il legname dell'Altopiano. Giunti a Valstagna infatti, la Calà termina nei pressi del fiume Brenta, in cui i tronchi erano fluitati, con delle zattere, fino a Venezia. Oggi è un sentiero storico-turistico. (Fonte Wikipedia)
