Lago Maggiore L'Isola dei Pescatori, detta anche Isola Superiore per la posizione più a nord rispetto alle altre isole del golfo, è sicuramente la più pittoresca delle Isole Borromee, nonchè l'unica a essere stabilmente abitata. Il suo piccolo e antico borgo si caratterizza per gli stretti vicoli su cui spiccano le tipiche abitazioni a più piani, con lunghi balconi adibiti all'essiccamento del pesce; gli abitanti dell'isola vivono, infatti, principalmente di pesca e di turismo. Il suo inconfondibile e suggestivo profilo è contraddistinto dall'aguzzo campanile della Chiesa di San Vittore che spunta sui tetti rossi delle case e la sua riva è sempre occupata dalle piccole barche dei suoi cinquanta residenti. La suggestione aumenta alla sera, quando l'intera isola viene avvolta da un'armoniosa illuminazione che la trasforma in un vero e proprio quadro vivente, specchiato nelle docili acque del Lago Maggiore. Sull'isola si trovano negozietti tipici e rinomati ristoranti dove è possibile gustare piatti a base di pesce appena pescato, tradizione che perdura nel tempo e che non cessa di deliziare i palati di personaggi famosi e non solo. A questo proposito vale la pena ricordare l'aneddoto che nel 1935 vide Mussolini e gli altri protagonisti della Conferenza di Stresa optare per un fuoriprogramma sull'isola, attratti dal desiderio di gustarne il piatto più celebre, il pesce persico. Giunti sull'isola è impossibile non visitare la Chiesa di San Vittore, eletta a monumento nazionale, che conserva tuttora l'originario abside con finestre monofore risalente al sec. XI. Al suo interno è conservato un affresco cinquecentesco raffigurante Sant'Agata, oltre ad alcune tele seicentesche e ai busti in legno degli apostoli Pietro e Andrea, patroni dei pescatori.
