I'm not a specialist in this kind of photos and, by the way, on this occasion I was out and about with completely different things with the minimum equipment in tow (only camera and lens), just so I didn't miss something interesting ;-) Here I used the pop-up flash of the camera as a brightening light, as well as in the other shots, some even with the off-center subject, with small corrections of lights / shadows in pp; The final choice, then, fell on this frame because those with the off-center subject were found to have a smaller PDC or with slight proximal or distal blurs. Having had a tripod in tow, perhaps, would have helped, I don't know, but - I repeat - I was around for something else and I wanted to stay "light". :-)

Carlo Pigi, grazie specialmente per i tuoi preziosi consigli che terrò a mente per le prossime volte.
Non sono uno specialista in questo genere di foto e, tra l'altro, in questa occasione ero in giro per tutt'altre faccende con l'attrezzatura minima al seguito (solo fotocamera e obiettivo), giusto per non perdermi qualche cosa di interessante  Qui ho usato il flash pop-up della fotocamera come luce di rischiaramento, come pure negli altri scatti, alcuni anche col soggetto decentrato, con piccole correzioni di luci/ombre in pp; la scelta finale, poi, è caduta su questo frame perchè quelli col soggetto decentrato sono risultati con una pdc più ridotta o con leggere sfocature prossimali o distali. Avere avuto un treppiede al seguito, forse, sarebbe stato d'ausilio per usare tempi più lunghi con diaframmi più chiusi, non so, ma - ripeto - ero in giro per altro e volevo/dovevo stare "leggero".

Freehand are not easy at all. The Melanargia Galathea is a subject with a beautiful sculpted livery, however its white areas need to be underexposed during shooting, and possibly recover in
post. In any case, in pp you could soften the dark tones to the advantage of the entire frame.

I mano libera non sono per niente facili. La Melanargia Galathea è un soggetto con una bella livrea scolpita, tuttavia le sue zone bianche necessitano di sottoesporre in fase di ripresa, ed eventualmente recuperare in post.
Per la tua immagine avrei valutato una soluzione verticale. In ogni caso, in pp si potevano ammorbidire i toni scuri a vantaggio dell'intero frame.
