Registan è una scenografica piazza nel cuore della città di Samarcanda occupata da un grandioso complesso costituito da 3 madrase: Shir Dor, Tilya Kari e Ulug Beg. A quest'ultimo si deve la costruzione di questo meraviglioso complesso iniziato nel 1417 e terminato duecento anni dopo dal governatore Yalangtush Bahadur. Le madrase erano delle scuole coraniche ovvero istituti educativi che proponevano un percorso formativo basato sull'acquisizione dei principi della religione islamica, della storia e letteratura sacra dell'Islam.
