L'Abbazia di Monte Maria (Kloster Marienberg) si trova sopra la località di Burgusio, nel territorio comunale di Malles in Val Venosta. La costruzione, simile ad una fortezza, fu fondata nel XII secolo dai Nobili di Tarasp. I primi monaci erano provenienti dall'Abbazia dei Benedettini di Ottobeuren in Baviera (Germania). La sua sopressione nel XVI secolo, fu evitata grazie all'intervento del papa e dei Conti del Tirolo. Al giorno d'oggi, 11 monaci vivono nell'Abbazia Benedettina più alta d'Europa secondo le regole di San Benedetto da Norcia.
