Il Dente del Gigante è un'imponente guglia granitica che svetta nel massiccio del Monte Bianco superando di poco i 4.000 m.s.l. (4.014, per l'esattezza). Il monolito (“Dente") finale - al centro della foto - è alto 140 metri. La storia del "Dente" è legata, secondo la leggenda, a quella del gigante Gargantua, figura nata dall'immaginazione e dalla penna dello scrittore francese del cinquecento François Rabelais. Pare che Gargantua, alla sua morte, disperse varie parti del suo corpo in giro per il mondo. Un suo dente lo lanciò verso la Valle d'Aosta e cadendo si conficcò tra i ghiacci del Monte Bianco, diventando per l'appunto il "Dente del Gigante". Che fantasia …. ma è bello crederci!
