È il crocifisso dinanzi al quale San Francesco pregò nel 1205, ricevendone la chiamata a lavorare per la Chiesa del Signore. Interpretò dapprima la voce del Cristo come una richiesta a favore del restauro fisico della chiesetta di San Damiano e solo pian piano comprese che il Signore lo chiamava a lavorare per la Chiesa tutta. Quello ritratto in foto é una bella riproduzione che si trova a Milano, all'interno della Chiesa di S. Giovanni alla Creta, quartiere Assisi, zona Inganni, edificata nel dopoguerra su progetto dell'architetto Giovanni Muzio.
