Sul fiume Po, a Casale Monferrato (AL), è stata realizzata nel corso del 2020 una Rubber Dam (diga di gomma), vale a dire una traversa di sbarramento mobile costituita da una struttura tubolare gonfiabile ad acqua in tessuto gommato posata su una platea in cemento armato. Il funzionamento del tubolare gonfiabile di sbarramento si fonda sul principio dei vasi comunicanti: in comunicazione con un pozzettone interrato e pieno d'acqua, garantisce la derivazione della portata sino a quando il livello idrico a monte della traversa non raggiunge la quota massima autorizzata, oltre la quale si deprime sotto la pressione dell'acqua che lo sormonta rendendosi trasparente al flusso così da non causare fenomeni alluvionali. Il salto d'acqua è di circa 4 metri e l'impianto consente alle quattro turbine di generare una potenza media di circa 3.000 KW. Lo sbarramento, lungo quasi 200 metri, è la struttura di derivazione più grande al mondo mai realizzata con questa tecnologia.
