Tra le località più affascinanti e suggestive dell'isola di Corfù, il primato è quasi sicuramente da attribuire a Paleokastritsa, un pittoresco villaggio a 25 Km da Corfù. Questa cittadina si affaccia su una splendida baia dalla forma di trifoglio, immersa in un paesaggio di colline dalla vegetazione rigogliosa, e caratterizzata dalle spiagge più note e frequentate dell'isola A Paleokastrizia, non dimenticate di fare una tappa al suo splendido Monastero, arroccato su una collina che sovrasta il villaggio, raggiungibile a piedi con una ventina di minuti di cammino. Fondato nel 1228 e costruito per lo più nel XVIII secolo, il monastero è un perfetto esempio di vita monastica, essendo tuttora abitato da monaci ortodossi. Il monaco che vedete nella foto, mi ha spiegato che con i suoi confratelli, abita nella struttura e trascorre le sue giornate, pregando e producendo tutto ciò che può servire al loro sostentamento: olio, dolci, e prodotti tipici della zona che vendono ai pellegrini e ai turisti. L'ingresso al monastero è gratuito, ma non si entra se non è vestiti in modo adeguato. In ogni caso, troverete sempre uno scialle per coprire gambe e spalle.
