Si pensa che il nome “Piazza dei Miracoli” derivi dal fatto che tutti i monumenti della piazza, oltre la Torre, pendano leggermente. È d'obbligo però citare Gabriele D'Annunzio che, nel romanzo “Forse che sì, forse che no”, scrisse del Prato dei Miracoli che divenne poi Campo dei Miracoli e infine Piazza dei Miracoli. La Piazza accoglie gli edifici in cui, rispettivamente, si celebrano i principali momenti dell'esistenza umana: la nascita, la vita e la morte. Il Battistero Il Battistero dedicato a San Giovanni Battista è il più grande d'Italia. Al suo interno si ammirano sculture come il pulpito, la fonte battesimale e la scultura bronzea di San Giovanni Battista. È dotato di un'acustica eccellente che rende il monumento, un vero e proprio strumento musicale, grazie alla sua altezza e alla forma e struttura della cupola. La Cattedrale Al centro della Piazza si trova la Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta. Costruita in stile romanico pisano con influenze bizantine e arabe, rappresenta un nuovo modello di chiesa per l'architettura policroma e l'uso del loggiato.
