Colonia sorge sulle sponde del Reno ed è la quarta città più grande della Germania. Cattedrali e mercati antichi si mescolano a edifici e uffici moderni. Colonia è una rinomata località turistica, ma anche un centro commerciale. La Città Vecchia, quasi completamente distrutta durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, è stata oggetto di un'attenta opera di ricostruzione.
