Il Tufello è una parte del quartiere Montesacro a Roma, dove sono nato e dove ho ancora una casa. Dalla finestra ogni anno il 22 febbraio vedo un corteo di ragazzi e adulti che ricordano un fatto drammatico accaduto nel 1980. Alcuni sconosciuti penetrarono nell'abitazione di Valerio Verbano, 19 anni, dove c'erano solo i genitori; attesero che il ragazzo rincasasse e lo uccisero. E' vero che Valerio fosse impegnato in politica e che, presumibilmente i responsabili appartenessero alla parte avversa ma il fatto rimase avvolto nel mistero, né il delitto né le sue motivazioni sono mai state chiarite. In quegli anni ne succedevano di tutti i colori e molte famiglie, di tutte le parti politiche, hanno patito lutti ma alcuni avvenimenti, come questo, sono rimasti indelebili nella memoria collettiva dei cittadini.
