Piazza Pretoria, comunemente chiamata “Piazza della Vergogna” per la nudità delle statue che compongono la bellissima fontana. Quest'ultima è scolpita tutta in marmo bianco di Carrara per opera dello scultore Francesco Camilliani che la realizzò a Firenze nel 1554 e successivamente acquistata dalla città di Palermo. Una leggenda racconta che lateralmente alla piazza sorgeva un convento di monache di clausura e una notte le sorelle, mortificate e vergognate dall'oscena nudità delle statue, scesero in piazza approfittando del buio, ed evirarono le indecenti sculture, per eliminare così le “vergogne” che stavano al vento, ma in effetti non è proprio così, perché se andiamo a vedere di persona possiamo notare che di statue evirate ce ne sono ben poche, quasi tutti gli uomini vantano del proprio membro!
