Autunno scorso sono stato con un gruppo di amici in una remota parte dell'Alaska, paradiso del fotografo di avifauna. Chi ama l'aquila calva americana non troverà niente di meglio sulla faccia della terra per fotografarla, se non allo zoo. Migliaia di esemplari si radunano sulle sponde ghiaiose del fiume, sugli alberi, sui tronchi caduti, in attesa di accaparrarsi qualche salmone arrivato alla fine del proprio ciclo vitale. Un banchetto senza precedenti che ovviamente scatena litigi più o meno violenti. Arrivarci non è semplice, tutt'altro. Le condizioni meteo spesso e volentieri avverse mettono a dura prova chiunque, ma una volta arrivati si può godere quasi in totale solitudine di questo spettacolo. Fortunatamente ancora poco conosciuto se non a livello del Nord America e dei birdwatchers più intraprendenti, rimane un'emozione non solo fotografica ma anche a puro livello di esperienza. Spesso si va a caccia della foto perfetta in luoghi di assoluta perdizione, magici e quasi senza renderci conto di ciò che ci circonda.
