Il centro storico di Pavia, ed il bellissimo Borgo Ticino, siti sulle rive opposte del fiume Ticino, sono collegati dal Ponte Coperto, noto anche come Ponte Vecchio. Costruito nel XIV secolo e danneggiato durante l'ultimo conflitto mondiale, il ponte è stato abbattuto nel dopoguerra. La ricostruzione che ne è stata fatta è solo parzialmente fedele all'originale. Sotto al ponte moderno è possibile vedere alcune tracce della struttura trecentesca. A cinque arcate, il ponte ha due portali coperti alle estremità, ed una cappella nella parte centrale. In epoca romana, nel periodo di Augusto, sul luogo era stato costruito un primo ponte, del quale oggi resta un pilone, visibile durante la magra. La posizione del pilone lascia intendere che la corrente del fiume fosse diversa, all'epoca. Il ponte sostitutivo del ponte romano risale al 1351, su progetto di Giovanni da Ferrara e di Jacopo da Cozzo. Grazie a tutti gli amici che lasceranno un like o un commento.
