Nel Palazzo Reale di Torino si trova la Scala delle Forbici progettata e costruita da Filippo Juvarra negli anni '20 del Settecento. La scala fu voluta per il matrimonio del principe Carlo Emanuele III con Anna Cristina di Baviera Sulzbach, affinché l'accesso al maestoso appartamento dei due consorti, che si trovava al secondo piano del palazzo reale, fosse altrettanto maestoso e ricco. La bellissima scala è costituita da un impianto architettonico detto “a tenaglia” che scarica il peso sulle pareti laterali e una rampa centrale superiore che non presenta sostegni laterali in quanto sorretta solamente dagli archi trasversali dei pianerottoli. Le splendide decorazioni barocche arricchiscono questo gioiello del Palazzo Reale: stucchi, fiori, conchiglie, il tutto di un colore bianco che amplifica l'effetto della luce e la maestosità dello scalone. La scala del Palazzo Reale è soprannominata “Scala delle Forbici” per un particolare che è stato posto da Juvarra in corrispondenza dell'imposta della volta sospesa, dove un paio di forbici tagliano le due trecce laterali incrociate creando una lingua biforcuta. Leggenda narra che questa lingua sia un'allusione e una provocazione di Juvarra alle malelingue di corte che dicevano che l'architetto non sarebbe riuscito nella realizzazione dell'impresa.
