Una delle più grandi emozioni provate nei miei molti e lunghi viaggi, è stata certamente quella provata in Terrasanta. A chi non è mai andato, consiglio vivamente questo viaggio, che, può anche non essere un "cammino di fede", ma semplicemente un mondo nuovo, pieno di fascino, dove tutta la nostra quotidianeità, pare non avere alcun valore. Credente o non credente, in Terrasanta, ti senti "pellegrino". Di seguito, qualche nota sul Getsemani e i suoi alberi degli ulivi. L' Orto degli Ulivi resta l'ambiente naturale tra i più fedeli alla Gerusalemme di duemila anni fa. Gesù si ritirava in questi poderi coltivati per trascorrere la notte e pregare. E quella sera di giovedì, dopo l'ultima cena e prima dell'arresto, vi si ritirò con i discepoli. Come raccontano i vangeli sinottici, fu in questo luogo che Gesù provò la più profonda angoscia, decidendo di affidarsi, in totale abbandono, alla volontà del Padre. L'orto degli Ulivi, si trova a oriente della valle del Cedron, all'incrocio del sentiero che sale al Dominus Flevit e la trafficata Jerico Road. Posto all'ingresso del santuario del Getsemani, il giardino occupa un'area di circa 1.200 m2. Una cancellata permette ai pellegrini di girare attorno ai secolari alberi di ulivo e allo stesso tempo li protegge dall'alto numero di visitatori. Gli ulivi antichi, dai tronchi cavi e contorti, posseggono un diametro di oltre 3 metri. Recentissimi studi hanno verificato la perfetta salute degli alberi e hanno datato la parte aerea al XII secolo. Ma il dato più sbalorditivo, emerso dalle ricerche, è la fratellanza degli otto ulivi: essi posseggono lo stesso DNA, a significare che provengono da talee, ovvero rami recisi e innestati, appartenenti a una stessa pianta madre. Il dato fa pensare che sia stato scelto appositamente un particolare ulivo, forse ritenuto testimone della notte di agonia di Gesù
