La chiesa di S. Francesco di Assisi dei Minori Conventuali, costruita nel XVIII secolo, è una delle più belle Chiese della Monopoli del Settecento, perché esprime sotto l' aspetto volumetrico e spaziale, un barocco rinascimentale. Fu edificata, sul preesistente sito religioso medievale, nel XVIII secolo su progetto dell'architetto Michele Colangiuli e mostra un barocco sobrio e lineare, intriso ancora di forme rinascimentali. La facciata divisa in due ordini è, infatti, ordinatamente scandita da lesene e riquadri. Barocco è il fastigio con il bel motivo del lobo aperto al cielo. Il campanile, la cui base è inglobata nella muratura della chiesa, si innalza rastremato, motivo questo che, insieme alla facciata, richiama i più illustri modelli barocchi della capitale. L'interno è ad un'unica navata, con tre cappelle per lato; gli stucchi, realizzati da Carlo Cassino,ingegnere e architetto milanese, mettono in risalto le murature accentuando i profili d'ombra e risaltando i particolari architettonici in un perfetto rapporto tra spazio e luce. E' infatti da rilevare che in un'architettura come la sua, fondata sul disegno e sulla luce, gli stucchi, che servono a delineare profili d'ombra diversi, per porre in rilievo ampie superfici chiare, hanno una grande importanza. Armonica è l'articolazione di volte, porte, finestre ovali. Tutto è misurato e raccolto. Così, rifacendosi alle ricche soluzioni del barocco romano, il maestro mira a rinnovare nello spirito del classicismo, la decorazione fortemente chiaroscurata della chiese conventuali napoletane. L'altare Maggiore in marmo custodisce un prezioso Crocefisso ligneo trecentesco. Ai lati le settecentesche statue lignee della Madonna e di S. Giuseppe. Nell'abside, dietro l'altare maggiore si possono ammirare alcune tele di D. Carella tra cui: l'Immacolata con la Trinità, S. Francesco Solano che battezza gli infedeli e I martiri francescani. Le altre cappelle custodiscono opere di vari artisti pugliesi come Vincenzo Fato. Nella cappella del Battista è bello il gruppo scultore ligneo della Madonna in trono con Bambino. Alla scuola pugliese è attribuita la realizzazione nel 1710 del pregiato organo in legno, decorato con effetti cromatici dorati. La costruzione della chiesa poté dirsi conclusa nel 1749, anno in cui fu aperta al culto. Critiche e commenti sempre graditi. Grazie.
