non è un HDR, sono due foto fuse la cui unica differenza è il punto di messa a fuoco (focus stacking), la parte bassa con fuoco sul primo piano, la parte alta con fuoco infinito. il 17-40 è parecchio morbido ai lati a F4 quindi non viene bene con uno scatto solo e viene pure sfocato l'infinito.
Riguardo la luce il fatto è che è determinata dalla combinazione della luna che crea le ombre ed è esattamente alle mie spalle un po' spostata a dx (sud), mentre la parte bassa del cielo risente della luce dell'alba che sta arrivando e che viene da dietro le montagne che sono al centro della foto (EST). Spero di aver chiarito i tuoi dubbi, se non è così chiedimi pure altri dettagli
