Nella maggior parte delle strade dell’India i muri sono pitturati con le immagini più disparate, ma, più spesso, vi sono raffigurate divinità. C’è molto contrasto fra lo sporco a terra e le lunghe sequenze di murales variopinti che si vedono un po’ dappertutto; la presenza così numerosa è dovuta ad un’intelligente iniziativa di Modi Narendra (capo del governo dal 2024), che ha voluto sanare gli spazi urbani e i muri di recinzioni delle case per motivi di decoro e di igiene; per disincentivare gli uomini ad andare a urinare lungo i muri, facendo leva sul forte sentimento religioso, ha voluto che venissero dipinti con immagini delle divinità: chi mancherebbe di rispetto ad un dio sporcando la sua immagine?
