Al confine con la Francia, a 1800 metri di altitudine, tra boschi e richiami dell'antica cultura occitana incontriamo Chianale (frazione di Pontechianale), un piccolo villaggio che già nelle architetture e nei materiali con cui è costruito ci racconta la sua anima montana. Qui vediamo case in ardesia con i caratteristici tetti di lose, ovunque legno e pietra, travi e, in primavera ed estate, splendidi balconi fioriti. Arrivare in paese e chiacchierare con i suoi abitanti vuol dire immergersi nell'affascinante cultura provenzale, che ci riporta indietro nel tempo, quando i trovatori componevano poetici versi e musica lieve e sognante. A tagliare il borgo in due, il torrente Varaita, attraversato da un ponte di pietra che è diventato il simbolo del borgo e che ci porta nella piazzetta su cui si affaccia l'antica chiesa di Sant'Antonio. Chianale è un luogo unico, da scoprire.
