Nel centro storico di Milano, lungo via Torino, si apre la piccola piazza di San Giorgio, sovrastata dall'omonima chiesa. La chiesa sorge sulle vecchie vestigia del palazzo imperiale voluto da Diocleziano. Il primo edifico venne costruito nel 740 per volere del vescovo di Milano San Natale. Successivamente, dal XVI secolo e per circa tre secoli, la chiesa subì diversi interventi che ne cambiarono l'aspetto originario. Nel Cinquecento vennero edificate le cappelle laterali e tra queste anche la Cappella della Passione, affrescata nel 1516 da Bernardino Luini. Nel 1774, venne sostituita la vecchia facciata in mattoni con i tre portali rinascimentali e venne realizzata la nuova opera, interamente rivestita in marmo e in stile barocco, su progetto di Francesco Conte. Nell'Ottocento, infine, Parrocchetti si occupò di realizzare il campanile a pianta quadrata e la cupola neoclassica. Internamente la chiesa fu ristrutturata sempre nell'Ottocento da Luigi Cagnola e si presenta oggi con una pianta a croce latina con tre navate. Diversi sono gli affreschi, presenti soprattutto nelle cappelle laterali: nella prima a destra, per esempio, è visibile una pala di Gaudenzio Ferrari. All'interno della chiesa di San Giorgio si trovano due lapidi. La prima in ricordo dell'Editto di Milano del 313 con cui Costantino concesse la libertà di culto ai cristiani, la seconda invece per rievocare il passaggio e la presenza nella chiesa della Congregazione di Cavalieri del Sacro Ordine Militare di San Giorgio.
