Lungo Borgo Pio, dove la strada si allarga a formare una piazzetta denominata Piazza del Catalone, si trova una fontanella piuttosto singolare, perché sorge isolata nel bel mezzo dell'ingresso della piazza e ricorda una di quelle edicole romane, poste lungo le vie consolari, dedicate agli dei pagani. La fontana, protetta da due colonnine raccordate da una sbarra in ferro, è costituita da una semplice edicola rettangolare in travertino, timpanata in alto ed addossata ad una costruzione in laterizio. L'arcata superiore presenta uno stemma papale, con il triregno e le chiavi decussate, mentre la parte centrale è costituita da una semplice cannella che versa l'acqua nella sottostante vaschetta ovale pensile, da cui ricade nell'impianto di scarico a fior di terra delimitato da una riquadratura a semicerchio formata da un bordo in pietra che racchiude una pavimentazione a sampietrini. Notare l'iscrizione posta immediatamente sopra la cannella, ACQUA MARCIA, che naturalmente si riferisce all'acqua che alimenta la fontanella. Ma questa scritta ci suggerisce anche la datazione della fontana: fu fatta costruire intorno al 1870 da Papa Pio IX in occasione dei lavori di ripristino dell'antica Aqua Marcia e che proprio dal nome del pontefice fu ribattezzata Acqua Pia.
