Beautiful image, the composition in my opinion makes the difference... Sincere congratulations.

Before commenting I looked at both versions, so I can tell you my personal idea :-)
I prefer this one absolutely, the b.w gives it a beautiful image and if you had dared with a little grain it was special for the portrait of the old river guardian, many congratulations.

Reading Loris, it seems necessary to me some reflections on my part too
... I don't know if the previous shot is a crop, but I find that this has its own more complete balance, in fact the whole reflection completes and makes the context more readable ... in my opinion. I also love black and white which, in this sepia shade, seems fascinating to me. In any case, they remain two splendid portraits set.

Thank you very much for your interventions and appreciation.
The previous photo and also this one are not crops, taken one after the other with a 24/105 zoom changing the focal length. In posts, straightening and little else. Then I worked the two images differently because it seemed to me that they lent themselves to both color and BN.
The first version was meant to be a portrait, cropping then I agreed that squeezing on the bust and face was lost a lot, too much, so I wanted to leave as in the shooting phase, that is, until the stick that plunges into the water.
This one, on the other hand, wanted to be more landscaped by better showing the surrounding context that already had its own reason .. :-D .
A case greeting to all of you
Claudio

May I ask you if the photo (which I like) is constructed and if so to what extent?

Remarkable character, the "vintage" post-production is adequate here. It probably renders better here than the other photo.

Above all, the statuesque figure of the man who enhances the already beautiful photo is excellent. Hello
