Il Siq costituisce l'ingresso principale all'antica città di Petra nel sud della Giordania. Con le sue pareti alte fino a 200 m, non è un canyon (una gola scavata dall'acqua), bensì una faglia geologica naturale prodotta da forze tettoniche, spettacolare per i colori delle sue rocce e delle sue pareti. In vari punti, si può vedere come le venature di una parete siano speculari a quelle della parete opposta, in particolare nei punti in cui il Siq si restringe fino a 2 m di larghezza. La stretta gola si snoda per circa 1.500 metri e termina di fronte al monumento più noto di Petra: Al Khazneh. Oltre che nelle ore diurne, è possibile anche percorrerlo di sera durante lo spettacolo 'Petra by night' che si svolge di norma ogni lunedì, mercoledì e giovedì di tutte le settimane; si viene accolti dall'ondeggiare delle fiammelle di centinaia di candele che rischiarano il sentiero e la zona antistante Al Khazneh in cui un suonatore beduino rende ancora più suggestiva l'atmosfera suonando il flauto. Stupendo di giorno, magico di notte e' il Siq. Il cielo stellato, incredibilmente vicino a quelle latitudini, porta un contributo non indifferente, creando un gioco di luci ed ombre fra il chiaro-scuro delle montagne e la luce del cielo.
