La Cappella degli Scrovegni, conosciuta da tutti con il cognome del suo committente Enrico, è intitolata a Santa Maria della Carità e nota in tutto il mondo per lo straordinario ciclo pittorico realizzato da Giotto. L'opera costituisce il massimo capolavoro ad affresco dell'artista e testimonia la profonda rivoluzione che il pittore toscano portò nell'arte occidentale. Il ciclo affrescato da Giotto in soli due anni, tra il 1303 e il 1305, si dispiega sull'intera superficie interna della Cappella narrando la Storia della Salvezza in due percorsi differenti: il primo con le Storie della Vita della Vergine e di Cristo dipinto lungo le navate e sull'arco trionfale; il secondo inizia con i Vizi e le Virtù, affrontate nella pozione inferiore delle pareti maggiori, e si conclude con il maestoso Giudizio Universale in controfacciata.
