Altra visita alla casa delle farfalle di Cervia --- La Caligo Memnon o farfalla civetta è una specie che vive nelle foreste pluviali e nelle foreste secondarie che vanno dal Messico fino alla foresta amazzonica ma presenti anche nel Sud America fino all'Argentina. Gli adulti hanno un'apertura alare generalmente compresa tra 115 e 130 mm, ma che può raggiungere anche i 150 mm. Le ali sono screziate di colore bruno chiaro e marrone, con alternanza tra i colori e la presenza di una macchia simile ad un occhio di colore marrone scuro per ala. Questa macchia ocellare, che simula in tutto l'occhio di un gufo svolge il compito di tenere lontani eventuali predatori.
