Cineto Romano è un piccolo paese non molto distante da Roma. D'inverno conta neanche 600 abitanti, d'estate circa 3000. Chiamato Scarpa fino alla fine del XIX secolo, Cineto Romano è stato per lungo tempo dominio feudale. L'abitato si compone della parte antica del paese, tutta arroccata intorno al Castello degli Orsini, eretto nel XI secolo, imponente e superbo, conserva ancora intatto il fascino del tipico castello medievale; guarnito di feritoie sormontate da merli ghibellini, sovrasta tutta la vallata. Visitando il maniero, per un'ampia scalinata si giunge all'antico posto di guardia, che fu l'ingresso principale al castello e sulla cui torretta era stata posta la campana civica, la quale venne sostituita nel sec. XV dal grande orologio comunale, che si ammira ancora oggi.
