Il sogno di chi pratica questo genere di foto è di poter scattare alla stessa altezza della garzaia. Questo è problematico, di solito impossibile, ma ho avuto un colpo di fortuna: ho potuto comodamente scattare dalla terrazza di un contadino, che ha fatto di tutto per scoraggiare la nidificazione sui pini che circondano la sua casa. Alla fine ha dovuto arrendersi alla mefitica puzza del guano di centinaia di uccelli e da quattro anni la nidificazione avviene a venti metri da casa sua. Perciò, benché fossi ben visibile, e senza invadere in alcun modo la colonia, ho potuto documentare per diversi giorni le interazioni tra le diverse specie e i loro sorprendenti comportamenti parentali, che non avevo mai avuto modo di osservare da vicino.
